How great is this kids Blog? Reminds me of learning to ski ... Instructor shouts: "snow-plough, snow-plough, snow-plough!" Me: "I AM SNOWPLOUGHING" Crash! Into the chair lift fence where all the four and five year olds are effortlessly skiing on one leg, doing jumps and spraying snow when they stop - epic fail on my part. Just goes to show though, when you learn something from an early age it becomes effortless and almost a part of you, or at least, a part of your way of life. Most kids are brought up with technology nowadays and it is just a normal part of life. I think Erik's blog is a great example of how using ICT can enhance a students learning and he is also contributing to the learning of others. But what about those from a low-socioeconomic background? They may not have access to any digital devices? I read a study somewhere (and forgot to grab the details so now that I want to reference it I can't - upon reflection I will now save all URL's that I read!) that investigated the numeracy and literacy skills of children in the foundation years of learning. There were children that used digital devices on a regular basis at home who were excelling and moving ahead of the children that didn't have regular access to devices. The learning centre/school implemented digital devices into their program and after using them over one year all students were at the same level. Reflecting on my first post, in just a matter of the past two weeks, my views have changed and I have come to agree that using ICT's in my son's kindergarten is of a huge benefit to him. My attitude to ICT has changed and I think it is about garnering respect for what can be achieved and using the ICT correctly. As I stated in my previous post, blogs could be used in my classroom in place of lab books. I also think that inverting Bloom's' taxonomy (discussed in my previous post) is highly relevant in my teaching areas of maths and science - evaluating a question and then working through it as students do in this video of a Colorado Science class and as I recall doing at University.

I love that "This Kid" has enhanced his literacy skills through reading and blogging. It is interesting to note that he was 9 years old when he started - I wonder what his blogs looked like then? It would be good to see a comparison between his ICT skills of then and now.

I agree - it's pretty horrific if disadvantaged kids fall even further behind if that don't have access to technology.

Awesome - thanks! We'll have to brainstorm the more nitty gritty of it :) Surely there would be a teacher out there who has implemented it already? I haven't been able to find much information about it ...
